Planning Your New Home Network
When should I plan the WiFi for my new home?
Ideally before pre-start selections are finalised and before electrical and communications cabling is installed. Early planning provides more flexibility for access-point, camera, cabinet and data-outlet locations.
Can you review my building floor plan?
Yes. Send us your current floor plan and details about how the home will be used. We can recommend locations for WiFi access points, data outlets, cameras, communications equipment and future technology.
Why not just use the router supplied by my internet provider?
A single router may be suitable for a small dwelling, but it may not provide consistent coverage throughout a larger home, multiple floors, garages and outdoor areas. Multiple wired access points allow the network to be designed around the property.
How many WiFi access points will my home need?
The quantity depends on the floor area, number of storeys, building materials, layout and the indoor and outdoor areas requiring coverage. We determine this after reviewing the plans.
Where should the communications cabinet be installed?
In a secure, accessible and ventilated location with suitable power and enough space for the network equipment. Garages and storerooms are common options, although each plan should be assessed individually.
Can the system be expanded later?
Yes. We can allow spare switch ports, rack space and cable pathways for additional access points, cameras, gates, solar monitoring and connected equipment.
Can cameras and smart door access be included?
These services can be incorporated into the technology plan, subject to selected hardware, building requirements and applicable WA security licensing. Licensed security installation can be coordinated where required.
Do you work directly with the builder?
Yes. We can provide a builder technology schedule and communicate the cabling, conduit, power and equipment-location requirements to the relevant building contacts.
